Bergamot are unusual-looking perennials that have aromatic foliage and whorls of spidery blooms made up of tubular petals. Monarda ‘Pink Lace’ is the deserved winner of an RHS AGM. This compact, short Bergamot has bright pink flowers and superior resistance to mildew compared to traditional cultivars. Its short stature makes it more suited to smaller spaces and it’s perfect for cottage garden, naturalistic or prairie style borders where it associates beautifully with grasses and quickly spreads into dense clumps.
Bergamot flowers are great for the wildlife garden, as they are loved by bees. The foliage has a distinctive citrus smell and can be dried and used to make pot pourri. Height: 40cm (16″). Spread: 60cm (23″).
Culinary note: Use the dried leaves to make Bergamot tea or use the sweet, spicy flavoured petals to enhance salads, jellies, rice or pasta dishes. For more details about edible flowers click here.
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
