Metasequoia are one of the few deciduous conifers and are highly prized for their stunning autumn foliage. Metasequoia glyptostroboides ‘Chubby’ is a rare cultivar that is much slower-growing and more compact than the species, making it suitable for smaller spaces.
With an elegant, pyramidal habit and reddish-brown, fibrous bark, this Dawn Redwood makes an impressive specimen tree. Like other conifers, ‘Chubby’ has needle-like foliage but this foliage is soft and feathery, with the ‘needles’ arranged in opposite pairs. The foliage is bright green in summer but puts on a stunning show in the autumn when it turns brilliant oranges and bronze before falling. Height: 4 – 5 m (13 – 16 ft). Spread: 2 – 2.5 m (6 – 8 ft).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
