Crab Apple ‘Red Jewel’ wakes up in mid-spring with a flurry of pink buds that burst into prolific clusters of fragrant white flowers. The flowers are followed by shiny, cherry-red fruits which persist well into the winter season. This upright, broadly conical tree offers another season of interest with autumn foliage colour, the dark green foliage fading to yellow and bronze before it falls.
Crab apples are one of the best small trees for bringing a long season of interest to smaller gardens. Featuring spring blossom, autumn foliage colour and fruit they provide many months of colour plus food for insects and birds. The fruit can also be used to make crab apple jelly. These adaptable trees are suited to all soil types. They make excellent pollination-partners for fruiting apple trees. Trees are self-fertile but fruit production is best with another crab apple cultivar. Height and spread: 4m (13ft).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
