Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Burgundy’ is the best oak-leaved hydrangea for intense autumn foliage colour. This low maintenance, spreading, deciduous shrub bears large, conical panicles of white flowers from July to September. In autumn, the handsome, deeply-lobed foliage takes on dramatic red-purple shades. Oak-leaved hydrangeas are resilient shrubs that require very little pruning and thrive in sun or light shade. Established specimens are more drought-tolerant than Hydrangea macrophylla. They make excellent subjects for mixed borders and woodland areas. Height: 2m (6.5ft). Spread: 2.5m (8ft).
