Fully hardy evergreen suitable for a tall hedge, although can be trimmed and kept in shape to any height up to 4m ( 12’), or as a specimen shrub if given space. Any fertile, well -drained soil in full sun or partial shade, and will also tolerate drought/dry soils and coastal winds. Elaeagnus may show chlorosis in shallow chalky soils. Elliptic, 10cm (4″) glossy leaves with dark green centres and conspicuous golden yellow margins on the upper surface and silvery underneath. Creamy white very small fragrant flowers form in clusters in the leaf axils during the autumn, followed by very small fruits which may remain unripe or frosted as winter approaches. Height: 4m (12’).
