With increasingly dry summers and the need to conserve water, choosing drought-tolerant plants has never been more important. Echium ‘Red Feathers’ is an exciting introduction to the dry-garden repertoire, offering architectural structure and an unusual colour palette. Basal rosettes of bristly, dark green leaves bear stiff spires crowded with tubular flowers in an interesting shade of raspberry-red. With deadheading, the flowers re-bloom all summer until the first frosts and are highly attractive to friendly pollinators. Although a short-lived perennial, leaving some flower spikes to seed will allow new plants to establish. A native to the Caucasus Mountains in northern Iran, Echium ‘Red Feathers’ is drought tolerant once established and perfectly self-sufficient, requiring neither staking or fertilising. It looks wonderful alongside grasses and other Mediterranean plants. Height and Spread: 40cm (16”).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
