Diervilla ‘Kodiak Red’

A very tough and reliable shrub that is valued for its bright spring and autumn foliage colour and is especially useful in partially shaded borders and difficult soils. It requires virtually no maintenance and is drought tolerant once established, adapting to almost any situation. Forms a bushy, mounding shrub covered in lance shaped leaves which are deep burgundy in the spring, maturing to green with red margins. In autumn the foliage turns vivid red. In early to late summer, it bears clusters of small tubular yellow flowers which are a magnet for insects. Grow as a single specimen, a low hedge or in massed plantings. It is also a popular filler for flower arrangements. Height: 90 -120cm (3-4ft). Spread: 120-150cm (4-5ft).
