This magnificent handkerchief tree was considered by its founder to be the most ‘beautiful and interesting of all trees of the north temperature flora’. Davidia involucrate var. vilmoriniana is a medium size deciduous tree, with a broad oval to pyramid habit and scaly bark. Small, dark green flower clusters are subtended by a pair of creamy-white, ovate bracts, which are said to resemble dangling handkerchiefs.
This handsome RHS AGM variety produces bright green, broadly ovate leaves, which often turn a beautiful yellow in autumn, and bears greenish-brown ovoid fruits after flowering. Height: 12m (39′). Spread: 8m (26′).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
