Cornus mas ‘Aurea’ is forms a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub or small tree. The Spring foliage is golden yellow, maturing to bright yellow-green in Summer, before Autumn turns the leaves to shades of orange. Yellow flowers appear on naked stems in winter followed by oblong red berries which, although edible, have a sharp acidic flavour. Cornus mas ‘Aurea’ makes a useful specimen shrub, providing plenty of seasonal interest throughout the year. It also makes a useful hedging tree for breaking up long expanses of hedgerow.
