Clematis tangutica is a vigorous climber, easily covering a house wall, large trellis or arch where its relaxed, billowing habit softens hard structures. In late summer and autumn, it is covered in masses of yellow, lantern-shaped flowers with thick petals and prominent stamens. The unusual flowers hang down elegantly on long stalks. The blooms are followed by large, silky seed-heads which persist into winter and shimmer in the low winter sun, creating a second season of interest and providing nesting material for birds. Makes a lovely climber for an informal or wildlife garden.
